India is a wonderful
place to live and experience the diversity in social, political and economic
spheres. Whether it is the large number of Indian states, provinces and
villages; or discrepancies existing in the political agendas and economic
classes;or variety of clothing styles worn by women and men; or different kinds
of ingredients and flavours coming together for preparing Indian food, India
truly exemplifies the notion of “unity in diversity”.
Topographically, India
is a delightful place for tourists and photographers. One can marvel the hilly
mountains, deep gorges, flat plains, mighty rivers, sandy deserts, and forests.
Indian architecture and monuments mark Indian history and continues to amaze
contemporary architects with its intricate detailing on walls and pillars
craved in the bygone era. The diversity found in Indian languages, culture and
festivals is unmatched. Given the range of religious and ethnic groups
inhabiting India, the celebrations of festivals marking their history and
culture occurs all year round.
Values such as
tolerance, ahimsa, svadharma, and nirvana rooted in traditional
Indian scriptures, Indian philosophy, and methods of harmonious living and
spirituality are glorified across the globe. The marvelous Bhagavat Gita is
the epitome of knowledge on life, death and renunciation. Indian folklores such
as, Panchatantra has never ceased to teach children the morals and
ethics for living a righteous life. The importance denoted to family and
tradition of joint family is unlike any other parts of the world. Importance to
women has always been an integral part of the Indian culture. Indians speak of
their country as “Motherland” and there are elements of femininity reflecting
in the idols for worshipping.
I am a proud Indian
because the freedom I have to speak, write and protest facilitates the role of
democracy and secularism, the two most important pillars of Indian nationhood.
