In today’s world, many people feel the need for a “social tick mark,” or approval from others, to prove that they are successful and worthy. We often worry too much about what society thinks of us and try hard to maintain a good image. Instead of following our own hobbies and passions, we sometimes choose activities that make others happy or impressed.
For example, a duck may appear to be sitting still on the water, but beneath the surface, it is constantly moving its feet. In the same way, people may judge us without knowing our real efforts. So why do we need to please everyone?
We should focus on doing what we believe is right and what truly makes us happy. However, in this showy world, many people think that showing off and gaining social approval is necessary.
The real question is whether this “social tick mark” is truly important, or if living honestly and happily according to our own values matters more.
